Quick makeup tutorials #shop

A while ago, I got stuck in a rut.  I found it so tedious to get ready every morning that I started going most days without makeup.   After a couple of weeks, I started to realize that I was going out less, even to the park with my kids, and felt less confident.  One day, I spontaneously decided to get ready in the morning first thing.  I was amazed at how much more comfortable I felt, and how leaving the house seemed like a fun opportunity rather than a chore.  I realized that I had gotten so caught up in doing fancy makeup that took up my time and energy, that I ended up not doing it at all.  I decided to find a happy medium and that’s why I’m sharing how to do quick  makeup looks with products you can get from any drug store.

Today, I’m featuring L’Oreal.  I’ve been using their mascara and makeup products for over 16 years, even when I try other brands, I always come back to them.  I’m excited to share 3 looks you can easily do using their great line.

Now the first step to quick makeup, is being organized.  A while ago, I attended a class taught by the beauty blogger, MaskCara, and she recommended using a store container like the one shown below.  It’s convenient because everything is out and visible, and yet, in organized compartments.

Great way to organize your makeup. Everything is visible, so no digging, but still in compartments. #shop

1. Everyday Smokey Eye

*All of these tutorial steps are to begin after your personal foundation routine.  Since we all have different skin, and some of us don’t even wear foundation, I didn’t include that as part of the tutorial.

For this look, I layered the eyeshadow as depicted in the pictorial. I then smudged dark brown eyeliner around the entire top and bottom lash line. This was  followed by mascara on both the top and bottom. Then I topped it off with neutral lip gloss, so the eyes remained the main focus.

All the looks I do today use the same eyeshadow palette–I love it!  The close-up photos make it look much more dramatic, here’s the overall look. (Accented with my habitually raised eyebrow, I have to try to NOT do that!)

Dramatic looks do not have to take a lot of time.  This look is deceiving because it appears to take longer than it really does. I started by applying eyeshadow color #2 from the pictorial.  I then applied a light coat of mascara to the top and bottom lashes, then I lined the top with liquid eyeliner, which I flicked out at the end.  Tip: angle up from the outside of your eyelid to the end of your eyebrow, or use a piece of tape to help you create an even diagonal. I then put on a set of false eyelashes.  Granted, if you are new to falsies, this may take you a little longer.  But since I do it quite often, and it requires less mascara, it only takes me about half a minute longer than putting on a few layers of mascara.   I added some pencil liner to the bottom, and used the attached sponge to smudge it in evenly.  And finally, I added some red lipstick.  This is more of a date night look, but it is quick with dramatic results.

And finally, my go to.  I do this almost everyday.  It’s a natural look that enhances my features without being distracting, and it’s also the fastest.  It takes way less than 5 minutes, especially once you have it down.

All I do for this look is smudge the eyeliner (which melts right onto my skin like butter, no hard pushing required!) into my upper lash line, then add mascara.  Finally, I apply a light pink chapstick or gloss, depending on the day.  Then I’m ready to head out!   Because the mascara thickens my lashes so well, I feel like it really opens my eyes without needing a coat on the bottom lashes.
